2010 Season Review

For 2010 John Cutmore moved up to RGB class "A", having won class "B" in 2009. He had a new car fitted with a Kawasaki ZX12r engine and again using an "Elite" diff. Mathew Green joined us and took over John‘s 2009 class "B" car.

We had a lot more difficult season than 2009 with 2 blown engines in Mat‘s car at the first round at Snetterton and bearing failure in the diff also put him out of the last 2 races at Oulton Park.

John had no less than 8 engine changes for various reasons, one blew comprehensively and gearbox problems necessitated most of the other changes. John also had a big "off" in testing at Brands which meant we had to cut away and rebuild the rear of the chassis, suspension and bodywork. We only had 7 days to do this and were rewarded with a win the following weekend.

By the end of the season Mat had won the "B" class with 4 wins, 2 circuit lap records and had an outright pole position at Oulton park. John finished 2nd in class "A" with 4 wins and 8 2nd places.

Best weekend for us was at the wet Silverstone race where John won and Mat finished second on the road only 3 seconds behind.

John ended the season 3rd overall in the Championship with Mat 4th, meaning we will have numbers 3 and 4 on the cars for 2011. John will have a completely new car, a GT-3 for this year and Mat taking over John‘s re-engined 2010 car. Both will run in the new RGB class "R" for mid and rear engined cars up to 1000cc.

Spires now hold the circuit lap records for class "B" at 6 race venues, John at Anglesey, Mallory Park, Silverstone and Snetterton, Mat at Brands Hatch and Pembry.
